But the State is rushing to erect 300 turbines nearly as tall as the Empire State Building starting at 8.4 miles off our coast.
This is the closest large-scale offshore wind turbine project in the country, expected to cause an increase in energy cost for ratepayers up to 55% and more.
And not all of the energy is going to New Jersey. Why are we bearing costs and dealing with fallout to supply Staten Island and Brooklyn with power?
The Atlantic Shores projects alone are going to cost the State a projected $47.6 million in lost tax revenue and $668.2 in lost tourism dollars in Ocean County attributable to LBI alone, annually .
And this is just the start of the over-industrialization of our coastline with State plans totaling over 2,000 turbines. Just one broken blade can leave our beaches awash in dangerous debris.
The project is expected to damage our environment and negatively impact industries forming the backbone of our state economy: fishing, tourism, and hospitality.
